K9 unit finds armed robbery suspect

A man accused of armed robbery has been arrested in Iberia Parish.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says 19-year-old Devone John Lewis was arrested after he allegedly robbed a man and ran from deputies.

Ackal says the robbery happened in the 600 Block of South Hopkins Street, where Lewis allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded money from the victim.

Lewis then quickly drove off in a green car, according to deputies. Iberia Parish Sheriff’s deputies found Lewis’ car and pulled him over.

Sheriff Ackal says Lewis allegedly ran on foot after he stopped his car. Deputies found Lewis, shortly after with the help of the Sheriff’s Office K9 tracking unit.

Lewis has been booked into the Iberia Parish Jail and charged with attempted disarming of a police officer, armed robbery, resisting a police officer two counts, resisting by violence, theft of goods under $100, possession of illegal narcotics schedule I.
