Lafayette General has finally begun construction of La Place de Vie next to the main entrance of the hospital.

"This garden that they're creating is going to provide a great deal of comfort and solitude, and a place to go and relax and kind of reflect on how your loved one is doing, maybe catch a deep breath of fresh air," says Libbie Harrison, family services coordinator for LOPA.

The space will also bring to light the miracle of organ donation by hosting flag-raising ceremonies honoring the contribution of organ donors and their families.

"It's really kind of impossible to put into words what this garden means to me," says Libbie.

Libbie's youngest son, Justin, was in an accident and passed away at Lafayette General seventeen years ago, and that day he became a hero.

"He saved five lives that day, and he gave sight to two people.  To know that there's going to be this special flag pole in place to honor each new hero that's coming along, and the families will know this flag is being raised for your loved one, it's indescribable," says Libbie.
