Lafayette garbage collection services will continue for another five years thanks to allied waste services of Acadiana.
The company will pick up garbage in the city of Lafayette and in the un incorporated portions of the parish.
There was no other bidding from competing companies because the council had the option to simply renew the agreementwhich won by an 8 to 1 vote.
Mayor president Joey Durel said while a bid process might bring a lower cost it could also hurt the agreement itself.
The new five year contract with Allied Waste is worth nearly 70 million dollars and will cover about 53 thousand homes.
