City Parish President Joey Durel's proposed budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year has been approved.
The City Parish Council of Lafayette voted to formally adopt the budget for the coming fiscal year which begins November first.
There were a few adjustments to the budget but one item that almost did not make it was the funding for arts groups and social service agencies.
However the funding will continue thanks to a 6 to 3 vote.
Mayor President Durel says it is not just good news for arts groups but a win for the entire community.
The city parish budget is about 581 million dollars which includes operating expenses, capital improvements and the budget for the city owned utility system.
