Surveillance being pulled from gas station where incident took place
Lafayette, LA (KADN) — On Tuesday, December 25 Lafayette Police responded to the Shell Gas Station on West Gloria Switch Road off of i-49 regarding a carjacking. The victim drove up to the gas pump and was exiting her vehicle when the suspect approached her and pushed her to the ground. The suspect then stole her vehicle. Because the incident happened so fast, the victim was unable to give a good description of the suspect.
"People need to understand is that when you're driving up you shouldn't be distracted with a cell phone or electronics or anything. You need to be paying attention to is there anyone standing on the side of the building, is there anyone walking up near the parking lot. All these things need to come into play when your getting out of your vehicle in order to in this case putting gas in her vehicle," says Corporal Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police.
Police are currently reviewing video surveillance from the gas station and other businesses around the gas station in order to catch video of the suspect prior to the incident. The stolen vehicle is a 2001 Jeep Cherokee with Louisiana license plate WQZ-047. The suspect was described as a male wearing dark clothing. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or about the identity of the suspect to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
