Lafayette Sheriff's Office warns of phone scam

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a telephone scam that involves random calls to elderly residents.

The callers report to be affiliated with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and claim that the elderly person has missed a court date and a warrant is being issued for their arrest. The caller asks for money

in exchange for the warrant being dismissed.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office will not solicit money via the phone.

Residents are warned not to provide any personal information to over the phone, unless they are certain they’re speaking with a reputable agency.
