LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — The Lafayette Police Department had to call in a SWAT Team and negotiators to coax a woman out of a home on Sunday evening.
Officials say the incident happened at 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14. We’re told police were called to a home located on the 100 block of Nora because of reports of shots fired. When they arrived, the 28-year-old woman inside the home refused to come outside to speak with investigators. They say she then discharged the weapon inside of the residence multiple times while officers were on scene.
At this point a SWAT Team and negotiators were called out. Negotiators were eventually able to convince the woman to exit the home and surrender to police.
The woman was then taken to a medical facility for evaluation. They did not say whether this was due to injury or for psychiatric evaluation.
A pistol was located inside the home and was taken as evidence.
Officials say no charges have been filed at this time. However, the case is still under investigation.
