LEDA releases study showing the economic impact of UL Football Program
Lafayette, La. (KADN) — Coming on the heels of Brittany Bodden's report on Coach Hudspeth and the economic impact of UL Football, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) has released a new study that testifies to the significant economic impact the Ragin Cajun football team really does have.
The study shows that in 2013 the football program alone brought in over $27 million to the local economy, an average of $5.46 million per home game (5). The football program also supported a total of 241 jobs and contributed almost $17.2 million to the Acadiana Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Local and university officials say that studies like this and the economic impact they show justify UL's athletic expansion, especially as it pertains to the football program in the "Athletics Department Facilities Master Plan".
