BATON ROUGE, LA — Look before you lock - it's a simple phrase child safety advocates are asking you to remember.
With the summer months come the heat, and last year alone, 27 kids across the country died after being left in cars.
Three of those tragedies happened here in Louisiana.
Experts say the number is far too high, and there are simple things you can do to make sure you're child never gets left behind.
"It's very preventable and one of the tips that we're letting people know is putting your briefcase or your purse in the back seat when you put your child in the child care seat,” stated Judy Harrison with the LA Children’s Trust Fund. “Then, you wouldn't be getting out of your car without your briefcase or purse."
The campaign is reminding people that even if it may seem cool outside, inside a locked car, it will be several degrees warmer.
