Louisiana state police joining 8 other state law enforcement agencies in Operation Safe Corridor
Law enforcement taking action after 8 fatalities labor day weekend last year in our community
LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) — After last year's eight fatalities during this Labor day holiday weekend, Louisiana state police is taking action. State police along with agencies from California across to Florida are participating in Operation Safe Corridor. Starting today and throughout the weekend state police along with local agencies are putting extra man power along I-10 on the ground and in the air looking for any kind of illegal activity.
"If we can get the public to go out there, be safe, drive safe that's what we want. That's our ultimate goal to have a safe weekend, and when you're sitting at the dinner table, you see everybody there," says Captain Becket Breaux, Louisiana State Police.
This is the first time that the eight states from California all the way to Florida have teamed up to ensure interstate travelers will see the same enforcement effort throughout their trip. Law enforcement will also look for drug trafficking or human trafficking, recover stolen vehicles, and apprehend fugitives. Depending on how this operation goes, this team work could become an annual thing for every holiday.
