Man arrested for 2012 murder at Mon Ami Tavern in Iberia Parish

A man was arrested today for a murder that happened nearly a year ago outside a bar in near Jeanerette.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office all assisted with the arrest. The suspect, Wendall Hines was taken into custody at his home in St. Mary Parish without incident.

Hines is accused of the shooting death of Harold Defils, 22, of Franklin. The incident happened just before 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2012.

Officials say the shooting was the result of a fight that started inside the Mon Ami Tavern in Iberia Parish. It continued outside and that’s when Hines allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Defils as well as two other victims who suffered non-life threatening injuries.
