A Ferriday man is accused of illegally killing alligators by removing their heads. When they searched the man’s home, they also found him in possession of crystal meth.

On Monday, June 10, agents with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries came in contact with Michael P. Smith, 37, of Ferriday, and his son as they were walking up the levee in Concordia Parish. They said he had a trash bag with an alligator head in it. They believe it belonged to a decapitated 10 foot alligator they found on the bank not far from where the two were walking.

After securing a search warrant, agents searched Smith’s vehicle and found an additional alligator head. A later search of his home revealed two additional heads.

While searching his home, agents found crystal meth and drug paraphernalia.

Smith was arrested and charged with Possession of an Alligator During a Closed Season, Possession of Crystal Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. He was booked into the Concordia Parish Jail.
