JEFFERSON PARISH, LA — A man with an extensive criminal history has been arrested for allegedly strangling a man to death at the Laquinta Inn in Metairie.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that a man was found strangled to death at the hotel on Friday, Sept. 28. Evidence was collected at the scene and submitted to the DNA lab for examination. The results of that DNA identified James Vandell Hutchinson, 39, as a match. They say Hutchinson has an extensive criminal history including several charges related to violent acts, as well as drug possession and resisting arrest as well as battery of a police officer
Deputies with Jefferson Parish and St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to contact Hutchinson at his last known address in Reserve, La. However, they did not locate him.
Hutchinson was located on Wednesday, Oct. 3 and brought in for questioning. Officials say Hutchinson admitted that he was at the hotel around the time that the murder occurred, but denied having anything to do with the death of the victim.
Due to the evidence, however, an arrest warrant was issued for Hutchinson and he was charged with Second-Degree Murder. He was then taken into custody as a fugitive from Jefferson Parish and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
