Man faces murder charge for beating 5-year-old son to death
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A man is now facing murder charges after beating his 5-year-old son to death.
The Baton Rouge Police Department is now rebooking Vernell Day, 36, for 1st Degree Murder after he was originally arrested on August 19, 2014.
Don Coppola, a BRPD spokesperson, says Day’s son Jay’v’une Bergin died at a local hospital around 9:44 p.m. on August 20, 2014.
Jay’v’une was receiving treatment for “multiple brain bleeds,” bruises (including one to the forehead), and signs of malnourishment.
Day is currently in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the charges of 1st Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
