LOCKPORT, LA — A man locked up in the Lafayette Parish Prison for DWI was re-arrested after he admitted to an armed robbery at a hair salon in Lockport.
DNA evidence is credited for connecting the two cases, according to the Lockport Police Department.
The robbery happened on Thursday, Sept. 12 at The Cutting Cottage. The suspect, Jessie Gonzales, Jr., went into the store armed with a knife and demanded money from three women.
During the investigation, they located a knife believed to be used in the incident as well as a sweatshirt. Both items were discarded near the salon.
The evidence was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for processing. On Oct. 10, they were able to match DNA evidence to Gonzales. That’s when they learned he was already locked up for the DWI charge.
Investigators questioned Gonzales and he allegedly admitted to the robbery.
Gonzales is now charged with Armed Robbery (3 counts). A hold has been placed with the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center so Gonzales can be transferred to Lafourche Parish for processing. His bond for the robbery charges has already been set at $50,000.
