Man slashes 21 cars' tires, unsure of which belongs to victim
Scottsdale, AZ (KPHO) — A man slashed tires on 21 cars at a Scottsdale parking garage early Monday morning, hoping one of them belonged to the person he was targeting, police said.
David Luellen, 23, of Cave Creek, admitted he broke into a vehicle that he thought was owned by a bartender who had thrown him out of a bar a short time earlier, officers said. To make sure he hit the right one, Luellen admitted he slashed tires on all of the cars around him, according to police investigators.
Luellen had been asked to leave The Lodge bar at 4422 N. 75th St. in Old Town Scottsdale at around 2 a.m. after he quarreled with the bartender, according to police.
As he was leaving, Luellen damaged several things inside the bar, officers said. When police arrived, they obtained his description and eventually saw a man resembling the suspect breaking into a parked vehicle.
Luellen took off running but officers were able to catch and arrest him.
A utility-style tool knife was found in the downtown parking garage that is believed to have been used in committing the crimes.
Luellen was booked into jail on suspicion of theft, burglary and criminal damage.
