A homeowner's remains were found in a residential fire that happened in Natchitoches Parish.

On October 15, Natchitoches firefighters were dispatched to the 15000 block of LA-1226 at around 4:30 a.m. to find a single story wood frame residence engulfed in flames.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters located remains believed to be of Cecil Wayne Fortner, 73, who lived alone in the community of Clarence.

The remains of Fortner were released to Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Agents for autopsy and a multi-agency investigation by Natchitoches Parish Authorities and the State Fire Marshal’s Office continues.

Investigators have determined the fire most likely originated in the living room area where the deceased was discovered but the cause of the fire has not yet been identified. It has not yet been determined if there were working smoke alarms in the home at the time of the fire. Investigators confirmed the victim would have celebrated his 73rd birthday on Tuesday.
