NBA player surrenders to NOPD for battery charge issued during Essence Festival

An NBA player was booked and released from the Orleans Parish Prison today. He’s charged with Second-Degree Battery, according to records.

Daniel Gibson, 27, surrendered to New Orleans Police on Monday, July 29. He was then booked into the Orleans Parish Prison and posted a $20,000 bond shortly thereafter.

According to reports, Gibson was involved in a physical altercation with a man on July 8. He released a statement explaining that the incident happened when he was in the Crescent City to attend the annual Essence Music Festival. His wife, Keyshia Cole, was performing.

"The situation was unfortunate but when things like this happen you rely on your foundation and #KeepPushing," he tweeted about the incident.

Gibson is scheduled to appear in court on September 27, 2013.

Gibson has played the past seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
