Obama implementing "Healthy, Hunger Free Kids" program this year
This year, schools across the nation are implementing President Obama's "Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids" program.
The changes require fresh fruits and vegetables at every lunch, whole grain pasta and bread, and the most unpopular change, only two ounces of meat per meal. The Avoyelles school board is sticking with the new menu.
Board officials say the kids do have the choice to buy extra items during lunch, but Hargis says there is a reason they are extra because the kids do not necessarily need more food.
