Iberia Parish, LA (KADN) — One hunter is dead after a boat sinks into a river in Iberia Parish
Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says that on November 30, 2013, at 4:20 a.m., two hunters were traveling on the Atchafalaya water way by boat when the boat struck a limb of a tree and capsized.
This caused both hunters to ejected into the river.
According to Deputies with Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Water Patrol unit, the hunters encountered heavy fog and were traveling near the bank of the river.
One of the hunters, who was wearing a life jacket, was able to swim to the bank of the river and then call for help.
The other hunter, who was not wearing a life jacket, was found a short time after the incident.
According to Iberia Parish Deputies, the other hunter, a 20-year-old man, had no signs of life and had died at the scene.
