Opelousas man busted on Election Day for bank robbery in Baton Rouge

A man from Opelousas was arrested in Baton Rouge for allegedly robbing a bank on Florida Street.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the incident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Officials say the suspect, Karl Shelvin, 29, walked into the State Bank and Trust and handed a teller a note demanding money. He allegedly grabbed the money, then fled on foot.

Detectives quickly located and apprehended Shelvin.

“Shortly after the robbery officers got a detailed description of the suspect and he was located on foot,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “He did have the money on him when he was apprehended.”

He was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one charge of Simple Robbery.
