Opelousas Police arrest burglary suspect
OPELOUSAS, LA — Opelousas Officers responded to a disturbance near the 1100 block of Overton Street where two of the victims involved in the burglaries were arguing with a third party identified as Jason Mayo, 18.
Both victims stated that they received information that Jason Mayo had their stolen items, which included a handgun, in his possession.
Opelousas Police detained Mayo and obtained a confession from him admitting to burglarizing the business and the vehicle belonging to the two victims.
A short time later, a third victim spoke to Opelousas Police stating that her residence had been burglarized several days prior and Mayo was believed to be in possession of several of her stolen items. Upon questioning by police, Mayo did admit to burglarizing the residence belonging to the third victim.
Mayo stated to police that he was high on illegal narcotics and did illegal acts to continue to support the habit.
Mayo was arrested and charged with three counts of Simple Burglary. He is being held in the Opelousas Police Department jail on $15,000 bond.
