Orientation for Hostess Brand Inc. employees who have been laid off in the company's liquidation
Alexandria bakery affecting some in Lafayette
Lafayette, LA (KADN) — Just weeks before Christmas and now thousands of people are jobless. Some of them are right here in Acadiana because of Hostess filing for bankruptcy. It's not just employees of Hostess itself. There are more than thirty bakeries around the country that are contracted by Hostess. More than 18 thousand were laid off, including people in Baton Rouge and Alexandria.
"it was kind of a shock cause we knew they were having conflict up north, but there was nothing down south. I'm a workaholic and the thing I miss the most is the people," says John Melancon, former lead clerk in Lafayette.
To help out, the Louisiana Workforce Commission had an orientation in Lafayette for Hostess Brand's employees. The meeting was about the free re-employment services they offer, and they also explained unemployment insurance benefits and eligibility. The workforce commission will be in Monroe and Hammond tomorrow for the same orientation.
