Pedestrian killed while attempting to cross the Interstate at night

A pedestrian was struck and killed last night as he attempted to cross the Interstate.

The Opelousas Police Department reports that the incident happened at roughly 3:00 a.m. on I-49. We’re told the pedestrian, Carlos Weston, 32, of Opelousas, attempted to walk across I-49. Officials say Weston was wearing dark clothing making him difficult to see by oncoming traffic. He was hit by an oncoming vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is being conducted to try and determine why Weston was attempting to cross the Interstate.
