Friends and family are honoring the memory of Allen Bares Jr., a husband, father of two, and a fifteen year law enforcement veteran.

"When we lose one of our brothers, it's a brotherhood and a lot of people don't understand the strength and the power of that brotherhood until we lose a fallen officer locally.  You can see it from the time that officer falls until the time we put him to final rest," says Kirk Frith, Chief Deputy for Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office.

And it's not just officers that have been affected.  Residents throughout the community have been coming to show their support for the deputy that gave his life trying to protect his community.

"I mean when I first heard, it's just real sad and I just thought of how bad the world is going.  I just thought of my kids, and the world they're going to have to grow up in.  My father was a cop in Abbeville for twenty-six years so obviously it's always sad when a cop dies.  I just felt bad for the family," says Eric Thibodeaux, resident of Abbeville.
