The sinkhole is not just the hot topic in Assumption Parish it is also a big issue in the race for the Louisiana Public Service Commissioner.
Candidate Ed Roy from Lafayette says his opponent Scott Angelle was not doing his job as secretary of the state department of natural resources.

Roy said that Angelle was aware of possible problems with the salt dome more than a year and a half ago but did nothing and said nothing.

The sinkhole began forming about a month ago and when it did Governor Jindal declared a state of emergency with Scott Angelle resigning just after that and announcing he was running for Public Service Commissioner.

Besides Ed Roy and Scott Angelle there is a third contender in the race for Public Service Commissioner.

State Representative Erich Ponti is also a candidate.

For Huey Long, John Mckeithen and Lafayette's own Kathleen Blanco
the position led to the Governor's chair.
