Fire Marshal investigators are looking into a blaze that destroyed the Friends Restaurant in Madisonville. Officials say a private party held at the location shortly before the fire broke out.

The St. Tammany Fire Department was called to the scene on Sunday, Aug. 11 at roughly 11:00 p.m. They say it took roughly an hour to get the flames under control.

The Friends Restaurant was badly damaged one year ago by flooding caused during Hurricane Isaac. It was scheduled to be demolished on Monday, Aug. 12. The owners reportedly have plans to open a new restaurant at the same location.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has not determined whether arson is to blame, but have said there are some “suspicious circumstances surrounding what happened.”
