Lafayette, LA (KADN) — Yesterday, March 3, started the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development's preparations for the 2013 severe weather season in conjunction with Louisiana's severe weather awareness week, which will end March 9. DOTD wanted to make sure to get the word out this year to families and businesses in the community now because around this time, late winter and early spring, is when a lot of severe weather occurs in Louisiana.
"We want to make sure that the public is being proactive and being prepared for any type of severe weather events. If they already have a plan to take the time and go ahead and review that plan," says Deidra Druilet, PIO for DOTD.
If your family does not have a plan when severe weather occurs, you can log onto www.getagameplan.org for more information on severe weather preparedness. DOTD wants to also remind the public to be well-informed of any evacuation routes and contraflow, driving safety tips, and up-to-date on information on traffic and road conditions. To keep up-to-date you can log onto www.dotd.la.gov or call DOTD's customer service center at 225-379-1232.
