Severe weather claims life of driver due to fallen tree limb
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Today’s storm indirectly claimed the life of a Baton Rouge man. The victim was driving his vehicle on College Drive when a massive tree limb fell on the roof of his car.
The Baton Rouge Police Department was called to the 5900 block of College Drive at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18. We’re told the driver of the vehicle, Nathaniel Evans, Jr., 66, was traveling down College Drive towards Jefferson Highway when a massive tree limb fell on his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Around the time of the incident there were high wind gusts (around 25-35 miles per hour) and a flood advisory was issued due to heavy rain, but there were no warnings for tornados or thunderstorms at that time. The Baton Rouge area has seen two inches of rain over the last 24-hours.
Earlier today Mayor Holden sent an advisory warning citizens about potential problems due to severe weather. He says that citizens who experience any flooding, downed trees or require other services to call (225) 389-2070.
StormTracker33 Meteorologist Kyle Myers says there is a possibility for more heavy rain Sunday evening. Keep up with weather updates here and on the NBC33 Facebook page.
