Sheriff arrests Opelousas man for truck stop robbery
OPELOUSAS, LA — An Opelousas man has been arrested for robbery.
Captain Megan Vizena, of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested 25-year-old Dudley Melancon Jr, with a warrant for his alleged involvement in a 2013 robbery.
Vizena says the robbery occurred at the Highway 167 Truckstop and Casino on December 30, 2013.
The Sheriff’s Office says an unknown black male walked into to the truck stop around 5 p.m. The suspect then handed the cashier a note demanding money, and ran after the cashier gave him an undisclosed amount of money.
Investigators say the cashier gave them a description of the suspect’s vehicle and license plate number. After deputies investigated the cashier’s tip, a warrant was issued for Melancon’s arrest.
Melancon is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail, with a bond of $25,000.
