SHREVEPORT, LA — Authorities have arrested two men accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint at a west Shreveport hotel early this morning.
On October 11, 2012 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Shreveport Police Officers responded to a reported armed robbery of an individual that occurred at a hotel in the 4900 block of West Monkhouse Drive. Upon officers arrival at the scene, contact was made with a female victim who advised authorities that she had just exited her hotel room, when she was accosted by two men who forced her back inside the hotel room. The victim stated that once inside the room, one of the men produced a handgun, pointed it at her, and demanded money. As this occurred, the second suspect rummaged through the hotel room, ultimately locating and stealing the victims purse along with her car keys. Following the robbery, both suspects fled the room, stealing the victims vehicle in the process. Officers processing the scene were able to locate the victims car abandoned across the street.
Robbery Detectives were made aware of the situation and in response, launched an investigation. While authorities were gathering information at the scene, patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on vehicle after a traffic violation was observed. During the traffic stop, a description of the two robbery suspects was broadcast via police radio. It was during that time, officers conducting the traffic stop realized that the driver and passenger inside the car, matched the description of two suspects wanted in connection to the robbery of the woman at the hotel. The men were detained and ultimately positively identified as the persons who had committed the robbery moments earlier. Additionally, the victim's purse was located inside the suspects car. Following interviews with detectives, both men denied any involvement in the caper. Travis Richmond 34, of the 400 block of Washington Street in Shreveport and Jeron Sykes 23, of the 1200 block of Estelle Street in Bossier City were arrested and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of armed robbery.
