Sleepy bandit arrested for passing out on random front porch in Thibodaux

Thibodaux Police officers were called to a home on Bayou Road because a man was sleeping off a night of drinking on the front porch. The only problem: it wasn’t his porch.

Officers were called to the home on Sunday, Sept. 2 at around 1:00 a.m. We’re told the occupant of the home had gone outside and discovered the man sleeping soundly. After unsuccessfully trying to rouse him, police were called in to assist.

“The officer said he had slurred speech, blood shot eyes and the odor of an alcohol-type beverage,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, explained.

When an officer tried to wake the sleeping man, he too faced a challenge. After several unsuccessful attempts to wake the suspect, he allegedly responded in an odd way.

“They told him that he was trespassing, and he casually told police ‘I know,’ and then tried to go back to sleep,” Melancon added. “He had no vehicle there, so he must have just walked from somewhere in the area and decided to stop at the house.”

Jeffery Lofton, 47, was arrested for Criminal Trespassing, Disturbing the Peace, and Remaining After Being Forbidden.
