Possibility of bridges icing over; possible road closures

Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 4:55pm

With the approach of the winter weather state police want to make sure you're ready before you get out on the roads tonight or tomorrow morning.  You're car needs to be in working proper order so nothing goes wrong while you're out on the roads.  Be careful about overpasses and bridges which usually ice up first.  Know what to do if you do hit some ice, and pay attention to possible road closures before you head out.

"When you're driving and you come across an ice situation on a bridge not only could it be very dangerous but it could also potentially be deadly, or lead to some severe injuries.  Make sure that you're buckled up and most importantly that you reduce your speed," says Trooper Stephen Hammons, State Police Troop I.

State police have already put out additional patrols around Acadiana throughout the night and tomorrow.  For information about road closures call 511.
