A 4-year-old boy who was kidnapped from Tyler, TX by his father after a fatal shooting was found safe in West Monroe, La.

The incident happened on Wednesday, Oct. 31 shortly before noon. Officers responded to the scene of a fatal shooting of a woman at a home on the 3300 block of Bain Place. An Amber Alert was issued after it was discovered that her 4-year-old child, who was in her custody, had gone missing.

Authorities quickly identified the boy’s father as a possible suspect. We’re told a second child was attending school and was placed in protective custody.

The suspect, James Calvert, 41, was spotted in West Monroe. An officer attempted a traffic stop, but Calvert allegedly took off and led police on a high speed chase. He was detained after he turned down a road with no outlet and crashed the vehicle.

Officials tell us that Calvert had a pistol in his lap and another in the back seat. Officers were then forced to break out a window to make the arrest.

The 4-year-old boy, who is Calvert’s son, was strapped into a child seat in the back of the car. We’re told he was unharmed in the crash.

Calvert was arrested and booked into a Louisiana jail, but the process has begun to have him transferred to Tyler, TX, where he will face charges for Capital Murder and Kidnapping. He will also face a charge of Evading Arrest in Louisiana.
