LAFAYETTE, LA — On December 18, 2012, at approximately 4:10 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on the eastbound lane of the I-10 overpass. It was determined by investigators that that female driver of the vehicle experienced a medical emergency causing the vehicle to crash.

The driver and sole occupant, Shirley Johnson, 66, of San Antonio, died later that evening at a local hospital from medical complications.

There were two other crashes that occurred after the initial incident. Only minor injuries were reported in those crashes.
