Sacramento, CA (KOVR) — Three dogs are dead and another is in serious condition after being left in a hot car for more than two hours during a hot day.
A passerby spotted the dogs in a car at a Sacramento, California apartment complex and contacted authorities.
A Sheriff's deputy broke in trying to save the dogs. Three were already dead, but a two-year old female was rescued and is now being treated by animal control officers.
Dave Dickerson, Director at Sacramento Animal Control told KOVR, "The windows were cracked about an inch open but that doesn't give it anywhere near enough circulation in those conditions, it's just not possible for those dogs to survive something like that."
The suspect, 34-year old Trevor Courtney, is facing animal endangerment charges and could also lose the right to own dogs for ten years in found guilty.
