Two men arrested for kidnapping, running from deputies

Two men were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a man and fleeing from deputies.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred in the early morning on Saturday, Feb. 2. We’re told deputies were called out for a reported kidnapping in rural St. Martinville.

Deputies located the suspects and a vehicle pursuit ensued. We’re told two suspects managed to avoid capture and fled on foot on Wilfred Champagne Road. However, deputies tracked down Bryan Briscoe, 35, of Lafayette. He was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Kidnapping, Resisting an Officer, and Armed Robbery.

A few days later on Feb. 5, deputies located the second suspect, Robert Derik Batiste, 41, of St. Martinville. He was arrested and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Second Degree Kidnapping, and Aggravated Flight from an Officer.
