Lafayette, La. (KADN) — UL students recently voted online to upgrade the university's transit system, but the vote was extremely close. The referendum to raise student transit fees from $25 to $50 was passed 939 in favor and 854 against. The fee increase will begin in the upcoming fall semester. The revenue raised from the spike in student transit fees will help the school purchase new buses, expand the night and weekend shuttle program, build more comfortable bus stops, and determine other transit options that best serves the students. The expected revenue from the fee increase is expected to be around $750,000 each academic year.
