Violent sex offender who fled Houston facility has connections to Lafayette

A man with a family connection to Lafayette, La. has been added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list. A $3,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that John Michael Enard, 58, removed his ankle monitor on Saturday, Jan. 19 and fled from a Houston halfway house.

Enard is considered a “violent predator” and a “high risk offender with an extensive criminal history. His prior arrests include Aggravated Rape-Sexual Assault, Burglary of Habitation with Intent to Rape and Burglary, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Aggravated Sexual Assault. He allegedly threatened to “re-offend before he goes back to prison.”

Enard is described as a black male, 6’0” tall, 155 lbs, with a scar on his forehead, face and left knee.

Officials say Enard should be considered armed and dangerous. If you come in come in contact with him, you’re asked to notify law enforcement

There are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Text the letters DPS—followed by your tip—to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
  • Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
  • Submit a Facebook tip at by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).
