Going Into 4th Year, Coach Hud Says Biggest Difference From Year One is Depth

KADN Staff
Monday, August 25, 2014 - 3:22pm

With football fever at a all time high around Cajun Field, you can sense football is only a few short days away. Five days to be exact.

The kick off against Southern University this Saturday will mark the 4th season Head Coach Mark Hudspeth has been with the Ragin' Cajuns and in that time he has been able to change the the culture of the football program in just three short years with three bowl championships.

While Cajun fans are staying focused on the future, Coach Hud says he still remembers his first year in Vermilion and White and just how different it was then compared to now stepping on the field game with a group of players that was not the deepest roster he's ever had.

"You know the biggest difference between season one and to the opening game now is depth. You know our first year coming in was a little leery to practice a lot of scrimmage reps. You know every week having another big hundred play scrimmage cause we didn't want to lose any starters because we didn't have any depth." said Caoch Hud.

"Well this year we have got some depth and we really didn't want to lose any of the back ups, because we finally got some depth. You know, players are a premium, but we do have more depth than we did in year one across the board. We were really thin, but those kids worked awfully hard and were very hungry."

Coach Hudspeth says he expects the crowd this Saturday break the record set for attendance the last time the Southern Jags came to Cajun Field.

With only five days to go, make sure to grab your tickets and be a part of what seems like it will historical day at Cajun Field as the fans fill up the Swamp!
