The Ragin Cajuns’ Baseball Team is getting ready for 2014 season.

Head coach Tony Robichaux is eager for his team to start practicing for the upcoming 2014 season.

The baseball team met on January 14, for the first time since 2013.

“We are challenged by the fact that we have a 30-day break between the fall and spring,” Robichaux said.

However, the coach was pleased with how his team looked after the break, “All of our guys looked good last night at the team meeting, so today we will get out on the field and work.”

Coach Robichaux explained that it is important for his team to start preparing now in January, “In the fall you have four or five months to get healed up and ready, but with the start of the season being a month away we don’t have that luxury.”

Robichaux said his biggest concern for the team is “to stay healthy as we work towards getting prepared for the start of the season.”

Jeff Schneider a UL-L spokesman said the team will hold individual practices until January 24, when the team will hold its first full-squad practice at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field. Schneider says practices are open to the public and are scheduled for 2 p.m. each day.

Last season the Ragin’ Cajuns finished the 2013 season 43-20, and appeared in the NCAA regional.

21 players from last season are returning this year. That includes eight of nine position players, who were regularly in the lineup, and all three of the starters, from the weekend rotation.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will open the 2014 season on Feb. 14 with four games against Eastern Illinois, who is a non-conference opponent.
