Acadia area elementary school went on lockdown due to suspect chase in the area

An elementary school in Acadia Parish was on lockdown for about an hour this afternoon. That’s because three burglars were on the loose in the area.

A representative with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office tells us that a resident living in the Church Point area arrived to his home this afternoon to find three burglars fleeing. The Sheriff was called in and they began pursuing the suspects on foot.

Due to the investigation a nearby school, Mire Elementary, was placed on a limited lock down during school dismissal.

“We didn’t want kids going home to a potentially empty house while these suspects were out there,” Maxine Trahan, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, explained. “All of the busses going to the south side of town were held and those students were not allowed to leave unless a parent picked them up.”

The school remained on lock down for about an hour.

We’re told the suspects were placed into custody shortly after 4:00 p.m.
