Thursday, November 12, 2009 - 1:41pm

A person familiar with the decision says the New Orleans Hornets have fired coach Byron Scott.

The person confirmed the firing to The Associated Press and requested anonymity because the team had not yet announced it. A news conference is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

New Orleans lost 124-104 at Phoenix on Wednesday, falling to 3-6 to start the season.

When Scott took over as coach following the 2003-04 season, he was the Hornets' third coach in three seasons.
