Marie Moreau says she heard gun shots around 5 this morning.
“I was awakened by what sounded to me like a shot.”
Marie says she listened for another, but didn't hear anything.
“I wasn't sure if it was just my just dreaming or if I had actually heard something."
Marie wasn't dreaming.
There was a gunshot and two people dead in the house next door.
The victims 54-year-old David Tyler and his mother 79-year-old Joan Tyler.
"Both subjects were found to be dead as a result of gunshot wounds," Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department said.
Police still aren't confirming whether or not this is a murder suicide.
Larry Wilson along with Tyler's brother, found the bodies around 7 Wednesday morning.
Wilson says, “It's just tragic to see all the blood and stuff. My first thought was to see if she was okay. I thought that she had fallen or something."
The victim's son did not want to speak with us on camera, but Wilson tells us that he's in shock about what happened.
“He says ‘Larry I don't know how to act. I don't know...that's all my family in there. I don't know where to begin."
Residents of Clause Lane say they never expected something like this to happen in their neighborhood.
"We never had any trouble here."
"It’s a quiet neighborhood. My first thought was i can't believe this is across the street."
Fox news did learn that Tyler had a history of drug use, but there is no indication that drugs played a role in the shooting.
We're also told that Lafayette police arrested Tyler yesterday afternoon for simple battery....allegedly pushing his mother.
