A Touch of Sol
Women's and Children's Hospital Receives a Special Visit today from the Sol Food Mobile Farm
November 13, 2012 — Sol Food Moblie Farm is a nonprofit garden assistance program from North Carolina, and it is an actual school bus. The bus travels the nation in a converted blue bird school bus educating communities on environmental sustainability and community development.
The bus doubles as a mobile home and classroom, complete with a greenhouse, living greenroof, waster vegetable oil engine and rain water collection systems. One of the workers of the mobile greenhouse tells us why the stop at Women's and Children's hospital was so important.
"This is the first hospital visit that we've had and it's really exciting to share our project with kids of any kind, especially kids that are too sick to go to school right now who are super excited about a field trip out into the parking lot to see the bus."--Reid Rosemond
Patients were able to come outside and tour the bus while getting educated on the big mobile greenhouse. Rosemond also said the bus traveled from Houston, Texas to Lafayette Women's and Children's soley on gallons of grease from Taco Bell...Makes you hungry right?
