BELLE CHASSE, LA (NBC33) — At noon on Monday, August 27, 2012, a mandatory evacuation for the east bank of Plaquemines Parish has been called. Also, a mandatory evacuation of the lower end of the west bank of Plaquemines Parish from Ironton to Venice is being called at noon. The Belle Chasse auditorium will open at noon today as a shelter. Schools in Plaquemines Parish are closed until further notice. Parish officials continue to work to prepare Plaquemines Parish for a hit from Isaac.
On the west bank all gaps in Hesco baskets that line a low area of Hwy 23 in the Myrtle Grove area will be closed by noon today.
On the east bank all levees that are under construction in the Braithwaite area are being elevated to 8 ½ -9 feet. Visqueen is being placed on the flood side for erosion protection.
