While patrolling the Iles Des Cannes Apartments complex around 2:30 AM on Friday (11/16/18), Lafayette Parish Sherriff Deputies observed fire emitting from the roof of a four-plex in the 100 block of Windward Street in the. Deputies began alerting and evacuating the occupants of the effected complex. All civilians were able to safely escape. Scott Fire Department was dispatched to the incident. Upon arrival, fire officials observed heavy fire coming from the windows and roofs of the two center apartments. Once firefighters confirmed everyone safely exited the structure, handlines were deployed in an effort to extinguish the fire. After several minutes, firefighters were unable to bring the fire under control, causing the roof to collapse, due to the amount of fire located in the structure. Officials then requested the assistance of a Lafayette Fire Department Ladder Truck. As a result of lack of fire hydrants in the area, addition tankers were requested to trans port water to the scene from the city limits of Scott. After flowing water for several minutes, the ladder truck enabled interior crews to reenter the structure and extinguish the fire. The fire is believed to be accidental in nature; however, the combination of the amount of fire and a collapsed roof prohibited investigators from determining an exact cause. No firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the incident. The structure is a total loss. 22 people are displaced as a result of the incident. Units from Lafayette, Duson, Judice and Milton responded to assist.
