On January 8, 2019, at approximately 0400 the Opelousas Police Dept received a call reporting that someone had been robbed at gun point in the 1100 blk of East Landry St. Upon arriving responding patrol officers were given a description of the allege suspects and the vehicle that they were driving. The vehicle was spotted by another patrol officer in the area of Creswell Ln and a traffic stop of the vehicle was initiated. Two individuals fled from the vehicle with officers giving chase. Two other suspects remained in the vehicle and were detained by officers. Subsequently officers found evidence related to the armed robbery in possession of the suspects. During the investigation officers also located a stolen firearm, that was reported stolen for a former State Police Trooper, who had the weapon personally engraved. Officers later located a third suspect who was walking in the area through officer’s familiarity with the group of individuals who self-describe themselves as the “Bently Gang” through social media all parties were affiliated with the group and had recently been involved in other unrelated incidents in the area. The Following persons were arrested and charged with Armed Robbery with a Firearm and Possession of a stolen firearm. L.A.R.S. 14:64.3 and 14:69.1.
Officers quick response by patrol resulted in the timely capture of these dangerous individuals.
