“Hey everybody Meteorologist Cory Smith here and we are back with 60 second science and today we are talking about the heat index. The heat index is something we talk about quite a bit during the warmer months and is important to know when going outside. It is calculated with two things, temperature and dew point. The dew point is how much water is in the air. This is important because we cool off by sweating and the more moisture there is in the air the harder it is to cool off. So, if we combine both the temperature and the dewpoint we get the heat index or the “feels like temperature”. If you have any science or weather questions make sure to send those in and I will see you guys next time.”
