Buckle up, a new transit system is making it’s way to Acadiana.
“It’s a commuter bus service that will operate connecting Acadia Parish and Lafayette Parish,” said Deidra Druilhet, Acadiana Planning Commission.
Better known as Ride Acadiana, the goal for this pilot route is to provide an easy, affordable commute among the two parishes.
“We’re looking to help connect people to educational opportunities. Whether that be UL or the campuses of SLCC,” said Druilhet.
Ride Acadiana will also connect riders to Lafayette’s Healthcare System.
“The particular buses that we’re using have 16 seats,” said Druilhet.
Aside from having that new bus smell, these buses have a bike rack and can accommodate disability needs.
“Each bus is fitted with wifi,” said Druilhet.
You can also track your bus or plan a trip right from your phone, Rideacadiana.com has a GPS tracker.
“What we’re doing is testing the possibility for a regional commuter bus service,” said Druilhet.
For the next 6 months this pilot route will serve as a test drive.
